Newspaper hits two year mark

By Joe Renna

Wow, issue number twelve. It's our two-year anniversary. Time has flown by and so much has happened. Needless to say, a new home and new business has put my life in a whirlwind. But through it all this paper has been a connection for me to what really matters, and that's people.

This has really become the people's paper. I would like to thank everyone who makes this paper possible. Number one has to be the advertisers. The equation is simple: No advertisers, no paper. I hope they are rewarded with the readers' patronage. (Use them!)
I would also like to thank everyone who has written. The letters are really heartfelt and they have a lot to offer. Some letters are turned into articles. And some writers are turning into regulars.

Recipes are always welcome, and our restaurants and deli's always come through. I don't know about you, but I'm always missing one ingredient.

I'm starting to reach out to more people. I've found that there is a lot of hidden talent out there. This paper is a great opportunity to showcase that talent. Tino Rosa has written a compelling article about Elizabeth real estate for every issue. Joe Vitabile photographs accompany many articles. And how amazing is Vicky Fernandez? She has done more by the age of 17 than most of us have done in our adult life. And now she has offered to work on this paper not only for the experience, but because it is good for the community! Does anybody still want to know how to keep culture and heritage alive?

These pages are filled with all that is positive. Lawyers, teachers and business people don't need to enter show biz to influence our youth. They do it with good deeds. And when they do I'll write about it. (That was a dig for Frank from Kinnelon.)

When I first started someone said that I'll run out of information. The opposite is actually reality. I have more information than I have space to print it. Where do I go from here? Publish monthly? Double the size? Both are possibilities. Either I need to clone myself, or double my advertisers so I could afford a staff.

For now the paper is a labor of love. Thanks to my wife Tina, my brother Nick, Lori Theiss, Jackie Salemi, John Sacco and countless others who share their lives on these pages.
